Lebron James or Michael Jordan. These two players have been deemed the GOAT. The GOAT means the Greatest of All Time and to be put in that topic is a great honor.
For fans of the sport, this debate will go on forever. Both of these players have had amazing careers which caused them to be compared to one another.
Lebron has earned GOAT status because of all his accomplishments such as winning four NBA championships, being named league MVP four times, being selected on the All-Star team 19 times, and is holding the scoring record in the NBA.
Jordan had earned his GOAT status because he was a four-time gold medalist with USA Basketball, including winning two Olympic golds, was twice named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year, and has won six rings.
Fansided News said for the modern generation studies showed it was mainly Lebron who was the favorite comparison. But for the older generation MJ was the go-to.
ESPN has said most people would rather be compared to Jordan mainly because of his legendary status and the abnormal things he has done such as playing in a finals game with flu and finishing with 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, dunking from the free throw line, and having 6 rings.
Since basketball season is near, what would TG basketball players say and who would they want to be compared to. The results are shocking.
FourStar Miami commit, Isaiah Johnson, said “Lebron.” He added, “Lebron is more dominant than Jordan, a better playmaker, he had the most career points in history, and his career is still ongoing.” Which was a reasonable response to why he would be compared to Lebron.
Dothan Ijadimbola, who is ranked one in the class of 2026, said, “ I would rather be compared to Lebron. Because at the time Jordan played there wasn’t much competition and Lebron has every stat better than Jordan except rings”.
Tyler Wagner, who won State with Totino-Grace two times, said “ I would rather be compared to Jordan because he was undefeated in the finals. He is a staple in basketball and when you think of basketball you think of Jordan.” Tyler wants to be remembered just like Jordan was remembered.
Lauren Grabowske, who plays varsity basketball for the women’s team and also won a state title, said she would want to be compared to Lebron as well. “ I’ve always been a Lebron fan ever since I was a kid. Watching him play has helped me develop my basketball game like his.”
Lebron and Jordan are both astounding players and to be compared to them would be such an honor. After talking with some of TG’s basketball players and reading articles, it is safe to say that a majority of people would rather be compared to Lebron than Jordan.
Players would rather be compared to Lebron and pick him as their GOAT because he is a dominant player with such great skill and leadership that youngsters who look up to him are inspired to have.
