Each season, the TG girls’ tennis team advances further and further in the section tournament. The section tournament is one of the toughest parts of the year.
The Eagles have had a solid regular season, and the girls have shown resilience and strength throughout the season. From singles to doubles, TG is a well-rounded team.
Over the past few seasons, TG has consistently improved its record and rank in the section tournament standings.
The majority of the team’s success comes from the players. Experienced upperclassmen, whom most have played since their freshman year, bring value to the team.
“I think we are a stronger team this year than in recent years, we show up to each match optimistic and with a good head on our shoulders,” said Reece Weeks. senior co-captain.
The past three years, TG was swept by the Rogers girls’ tennis team, 0-7. But this season TG battled and ended up falling short 3-4.
Erica Welsh, the other senior co-captain, added, “Our match has never been that close. This year we are more confident, and we have more trust in our abilities. We walk into matches against hard schools with a good mindset, which helps our matches’ outcomes.”
TG belongs to a talented section. Several teams are state-ranked and have competed and placed in the state tournament.
The Eagles will have to battle a hard fight to secure a section title. Both singles and doubles will have to have their best performances to succeed in the section tournament.
“We have been focused in practices and have worked hard, I’m just hoping that shows in matches ahead,” said Weeks. Maintaining a positive mindset and having trust in their tennis abilities should be enough for these Eagles hoping to win.
