Tap into Tennis
September 20, 2016
The girls tennis team’s season is off to a great start with a 3-3 record. A lot of good buzz came from the team about their season.
They have a no cut policy which allows everyone to be a part of a team and learn great tennis skills. Their team captains say the team is, “creating opportunities to our advantage.”
Their motto for this year is “ad in,” which means they push to take every opportunity to get the advantage. They are constantly motivated by their coach Mr. Dave Wareham and enjoy his famous quotes such as: “Jack it up” and “Air it out.” Other teammates shared their favorite phrase they play by, “You only live once, but you get to serve twice.”
There are three levels in the program. The varsity teams is a very competitive team with lots of success. One of their star players and captains, Anna Harlan, was injured on Friday and is hoping for a quick recovery in order to finish out her senior year.
The team lost this weekend, but won their match last week against Irondale, a big accomplishment after losing to them last year in sections.
The varsity and JV team have two home matches this week. They play Monday against Anoka, Tuesday against Spring Lake Park and an away match Thursday against Osseo. The JV and C- Squad teams have a tournament on Saturday.
For details on these matches as well as future matches check the team’s schedule on the Totino-Grace website.
