TG member’s opinion on Donald Trump taking the Republican Nominee
May 12, 2016
When Ted Cruz suspended his political campaign early last week, it was brought to the country’s attention that Donald Trump would be the 2016 Republican Nominee. This shocked many due to his frequent bigoted comments and his unfiltered speech. However, on the opposite end of things, this is refreshing for many Americans because it is rare for a politician to unapologetically speak his mind. I had the pleasure of asking a handle of TG community members on their opinion of Trump receiving the Republican nominee.
Camille Lilleberg (Senior): Just the election itself this year is just a whole joke to me, the fact that Donald Trump could and might be our next President definitely makes me scared for my future, and for what the country is in store for.
Buck Loch (Senior): I feel that Donald Trump is the best Republican nominee because he is the voice of the people that are frustrated with the all talk no action politicians. I think he is a great choice meaning that he wrote a book called The Art of the Deal, a NY times best seller. He’s also great by the way he says how he feels, like the Government is no longer for the people, instead of telling people what they want to hear. Great day for Americans everywhere to have Donald Trump be a presidential nominee.
Terry Voss (Teacher): Scary.
Luke Bonfe (Senior): He was my last pick of the Republicans for the nominee, but now that he has it I will be voting for him over Hillary
James Streeter (Senior): I saw it coming. I would like the dude if he wasn’t blatantly racist and talked down to people with disabilities and stuff. I don’t blame him for the way people act at his rallies and stuff, but he hasn’t done anything to stop it.
Hwan So (Junior): If he wins the presidency I give up. I’m going back to South Korea.
Veronica Kuffel (Sophomore): No comment because I don’t really watch the news.
Autumn Johnson (Senior): I think people are sick of the conventional politics we’ve had lately where everything happens behind closed doors and the general public doesn’t have as much access or knowledge of what is happening. Donald Trump says everything and anything that comes to mind which might be refreshing for many people to understand what is happening and his exact thoughts. However a large majority of what Donald Trump says is offensive and degrading. With the current economic recession the American people want someone to be able to pull us out of it. They think with Donald Trump being a “businessman” he can pull us out of the recession even though Donald Trump himself has gone bankrupt multiple times and was given “a small loan of a million dollars” from his father. Donald Trump does not understand the average American’s financial situation and would make a mockery of the United States with his policies and preposterous ideas.
Matt Gullickson (Senior): I think that it’s nice to not have a career politician be running for president, and the fact that he is a very successful businessman is a big plus as well. Many people have no idea what his actual views are, but if you read them you might be surprised. He’s not only about “building a wall”.
Mary Neuman (Teacher): I do not have a comment about Donald Trump because I will vote for anybody but HC. It does not matter who runs against her. The country does NOT need another (4) Four years of the Clintons. They had their (8) Eight Years in the previous century…let this 21st century bring “new blood” into the Presidency.
Sophia Baker (Freshmen): Not happy.
