Varsity Soccer – Totino-Grace Vs. Orono
November 8, 2017
On Monday, October 30th the Totino-Grace varsity soccer team played their first state game vs Orono. The boys went up early scoring first. Orono still had fight left in them and came back scoring two goals this had the game at 2-1 Orono was up.
The final 2 minutes started to tick by and people started to file out, saying we gave it our best and that next year we’ll come back better. Seconds later, junior, Herbert Endeley back-heeled the ball directly toward senior Luke Lindsay who tapped the ball into the goal to send it into overtime.
This had been a largely offensive game until overtime when both teams took stands on defense, junior goalie Phil Ronza had 4 saves that game letting in 2. The time started to click down when suddenly Sophomore Lamarre Steevenson ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the net but sadly was blocked by the goalie, but by being in the right place at the right time Herbert Endeley was there to tap the ball in and score the game winning goal. After the goal was scored it was a large hit to Orono they tried to come on the offensive, but it was no match for the Eagles as they entered defensive mode.
Sophomore Lamarre Steevenson says that going into halftime the whole team was bummed out because of the 2-1 deficit, their coach Bill Vance was encouraging them as they entered into the locker room telling them to not give up and that they could still win.
Steevenson tells us that after the tying goal had been scored “I knew we had won.” Junior Herbert Endeley says that his reaction to scoring the game-winning goal was “the best feeling of my life.” he tells us “I am so fortunate that I am able to be apart of such an amazing team with seniors that are as good as ours. The thing I love most about this team is that we are a family.”
