This past weekend wrapped up another year for the Totino-Grace theater department with the Children’s musical. The students did six performances of the musical Free To Be You and Me throughout last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The musical was a great display of how to overcome gender barriers. The play started out with two babies trying to figure out what gender they were just by appearance. One baby believed they were a boy because they were impatient and wanted to be a fireman. The other thought they were a girl because they couldn’t keep a secret and were afraid of mice.

Some members of the cast shared their favorite memory from the show.

“I always love the little kids’ reactions, like when they laugh or try to help us on stage,” explains Jacob Hilton. “There was one part in the play where Nate was chasing Claire, and she hid behind a wall. When Nate asked the kids where she went they all jumped up and started shouting trying to tell him.”

“I would say right after we first got the set built and we were able to just play on the set for a practice!” -Anne Mitchell

“Performing for the kids!” -Chelsea Moore

“Probably the fact that I got to perform with everyone one last time.” -Nate Louiselle

“Performing with the seniors (Nate, Chelsea, Jake, and Kyle) for the last time was so special! They’re all very talented, energetic, and positive! So, every day was my favorite memory from this play. We had an awesome cast!” -Kate Lawless

“My favorite memory from the musical is when Jake and I first practiced our baby scene in our footie pajamas!” -Mary Kittridge

It’s hard for the seniors to say goodbye to their TG theater career, but senior Jacob Hilton explains, “I’m kinda sad we are done, but I’m thankful for all I’ve learned and I know it has to end.”
