An open letter to our windowless school

Ella Padden, Contributor

Imagine this; it’s a lovely day outside, the sun is shining and the sky is crystal blue. And I have to get up, come to school and be hidden from the light forever. Or, at least until 2:15. Thanks for that, you over-glorified brick box.

I just love that your thick cement walls get to prevent me from the benefits of having windows in my classroom. Thank you for the stale, sickness ridden air or for the bleak four walls in each classroom I stare at every single day. Luckily the perks of not having windows doesn’t just stop there; I don’t get real, natural light, except maybe for the 30 minutes I would spend at lunch or my open period in the library, but the poor kids without an open period get less natural light than that; I just get bright annoying fluorescent bulbs I have to sit under 7 hours a day. And the fact that we can’t go outside during our open gives me cabin fever, something I love so much.

You and your brick walls give me exhaustion and make focusing so hard, by giving me no changes in scenery, no natural light, no trees or green space to look at. These things that you do make me enjoy going to school every single day.

Yours truly and tiredly,

Ella Padden
